Typewritten and signed letter, dated 12 Jan. 1946, and addressed to Gordon Ray Young. Brodie explains why she cannot do a biography of Brigham Young, the second president of the Mormon Church, or of Samuel Brannan. She states that materials relating to Young would be denied to her by the Mormon Church.

Sam Brannan (1819-1889) was born in Maine and moved to Ohio as a teenager. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and in 1844 began printing The Prophet, a Mormon newspaper, in New York.
